Many have said that the history of Cambodia and its people is written in their food. Cambodian or Khmer cuisine is most like that of Thailand, with many similar dishes, just with less chilli, sugar and coconut milk. Khmer cuisine also has its own distinctive flavour. This is thanks to the blends of herbs and spices mastered by ancient Khmer locals, and prahok, a fermented fish paste that balances out the other flavours.
Throughout the centuries, as settlers from France, China, and India made Cambodia their home, their global flavours influenced the taste of local Cambodian cuisine. At 4 Rivers Restaurant our chefs have learned to make baguettes from the French, stir-fry and curry dishes from the Chinese and Indians, and Cambodian delicacies from the great cooks who resided here for centuries.
Cambodians are known for their love of seafood and vegetables. Every day, fishermen haul in the freshest catch from the rivers and seas, while farmers collect fresh produce to sell at the local markets. A typical meal consists of salad, fish, rice, and soup.
At 4 Rivers Restaurant, we’ve taken the best of the local and global influences that define Cambodian cuisine and created dishes that are specially crafted to delight with every bite. In addition to local favourites, we also serve a mix of Western and Southeast Asian food.

Trey Deap (Fish) Amok – The country’s national treasure when it comes to cuisine
Sea fish filet slowly cooked in a coconut broth with a fragrant blend of spices, served in banana leaves. Crushed peanuts “kroeung” paste, lemongrass, turmeric, galangal, garlic, shallot, lime leaf and dried chilli are only some ingredients of our Chef’s secret recipe.
Fried seafood in Green Koh Kong Peppercorns – it cannot get more local
In high fire, and with generous amount of ground pepper, shrimps and squid are stir-fried with long finger chili and fresh green peppercorns that have been grown and harvested in the region of Koh Kong.
Chicken Khmer Curry
With freshly made kroeung paste – blended khmer spices – lemongrass, turmeric, galangal, garlic, shallot, lime leaf and dried chilli, cubed chicken is added in, then mixed with seasonal vegetables grown in Koh Kong region – baby eggplant, broccoli, potato and carrots. Fresh lime leaf is added for that extra spice.
