What is the weather like there?

Cambodia has a tropical climate with temperatures that range from warm to hot throughout the year.

There are two seasons in Cambodia. The northeast monsoon season runs from December to April, bringing sunny, dry weather especially in January and February. The rains come when the winds shift into the southwest monsoon from May to November, with the most precipitation in September and October; this season also has the nicest colours in the skies.

From February to April Cambodia steadily heats up with temperatures sometimes exceeding 40°C in April. Temperatures remain high in May and June, and the southwest monsoon brings with it more humidity and some very sticky days! From July to October, there will certainly be some rainfall but it usually comes in short heavy showers, often in the late afternoon and evening.

Do we need malaria pills?

We’re not in an area affected by malaria, so taking malaria pills isn’t necessary.

Are there mosquitoes, bugs, spiders, snakes, stray dogs or other wildlife that may impact our experience?

Usually there are very few mosquitoes but on occasion mosquitoes and bugs can be an issue; often without notice or a pattern that can be identified. However 4 Rivers Floating Lodge does have insect repellent available upon request. You are also encouraged to bring your own insect repellent if you have a preferred brand.

Our tents are surrounded with green nets that help keep the mosquitoes and other bugs out. We recommend that you keep these nets properly zipped and don’t have too many lights turned on inside your tent, as bugs are attracted to light.

Given the remote, rural location there is also the chance you may see the odd spider, snake, frog or gecko but these shouldn’t pose a risk to you. The location is semi-secure and protected from local wildlife (except a couple of local pet cats and dogs), although you may encounter the odd cow or water buffalo as you explore the surroundings.
